- Gasoline-powered cars are large contributors to carbon emissions
- In 2014, transportation accounted for 26% of the total greenhouse emissions in the United States, which makes it the second largest contributor of US greenhouse gas emissions
- As a result, the electric car has been seen a viable option as an environmentally sound technology that would produce low to zero carbon emissions to reduce overall emissions from transportation. However, electric cars have long been seen as a nuisance since they did not have the capacity to move cars very far when compared to gasoline-powered cars. To combat this, Tesla has ushered in a new wave of electric cars, that include both high performance and green technology.

- Electric motor converts more than 90 percent of energy into motion compared to just 25 percent in gasoline-powered cars

- To implement Tesla cars, the Tesla company had to be created by acquiring funding and personnel to start up the company
- The company then had to establish partnerships with different organizations to get the right pieces for the technology needed to create the Tesla Electric Cars
- Once the car is constructed, suppliers and dealers are needed to ship the cars and sell them to the general public

I also thought this technology was quite amazing considering the speed and distance this car can travel using batteries. I think it still remains to be seen how well it will perform when it is tested over a long period of time.

This is a great post! Tesla cars are a huge step towards sustainability and zero-emissions transportation. The core technology for these cars are their batteries which Tesla rightfully identified as it’s core competency and created a new product category – Powerwalls to store energy for sustainable homes.
