Several studies highlight that enterprises could reduce their carbon emissions by more than 50% if they migrate their data storage operations to cloud.

Cloud computing is a model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction. The shift to cloud processing and storage significantly cuts these costs including on electricity.
